Regional Natural Park Of The Perche

The regional natural park of the Perche was created in 1998 and covers 182,000 hectares of the departments of Orne and Eure et Loir, with 73,600 inhabitants in 118 communes.

The Perche was historically a province, created in the 12th century, and the area still retains a unique character.

Much of the north and east of the park is covered by vast forests of oak and beech. These uplands give rise to many water-courses, which were often dammed in the Middle Ages to provide lakes for fish-farming and which are often now the wintering place for migratory birds.

The rest of the park provides many unique environments for flora and fauna too - peat-bog, marsh and chalk valleys, bocage and open pasture.
